Master Classes by Eugene Schwartz: Teaching Grade Six
Over the years, Eugene Schwartz has given hundreds of lectures to teachers at summer conferences in Rudolf Steiner College, Sunbridge Institute, and the Essential Conferences in Kimberton, PA, and Mancos, CO. The "Master Classes" Download series is a collection of the most helpful of these lectures, all of which exemplify Eugene's intent to guide teachers to "Know What. Know How. Know Why." Although any single lecture may prove to be all that you need, we urge you to consider the generous discount given if you download the entire set of any one grade.
Be sure to read about #315, "The Elements of Grade Six," a Download with hundreds of images of Grade Six student work. Click here to learn more.

Before You Purchase the Master Classes, Learn about the Online Conference for This Grade . . . .We are often asked "What is the difference between the Master Classes lectures on a particular grade and the Online Conference for that grade?" Here are some comparisons:
Every Online Conference contains at least three times — and as much as five times — the content of the Master Classes set for the same grade. And while the Master Classes are completely audio, the Online Conferences offer hours of slideshows of student work, "teachers guides" videos in many subjects, and, in the upper grades, lab science demonstrations and slide shows of masterworks of art relevant to your grade.
While the Master Classes are recordings of lectures given to live audiences, the Online Conferences were recorded with high-quality digital equipment and meant especially for online transmission.
In short, the Master Classes are an excellent "refresher course," and, once you have purchased them and downloaded them they are yours to keep. The Online Conferences are, on the other hand, a thorough preparation for your new grade; in fact, many of our participants feel that the conferences provide them with far more depth and insight than they received in their teacher training.
You can make the comparison yourself. To read the complete contents of every Online Conference and listen to samples of conference lectures, visit:

601: The Sixth Grade Challenge
Between ages 12 and 13, young people undergo some of the most profound changes in their lifetimes; we should not be surprised at the turmoil and antagonism that appears among students and their parents. And you, their teacher, will be in the middle of it all! Here is some advice -- and commiseration.

602: Artistry and Academics
As parents awaken to the sometimes overly casual approach of the Waldorf school towards academics, they put pressure on schools to bring in math and English specialists, and they demand tests and grades. Most schools are timidly going along with all of this, but it is the worst path imaginable. Here's why.

603: Teaching Geometric Drawing
The combination of geometric rigor and artistic coloring that characterizes a Grade 6 geometric drawing provides the student with a powerful experience. We strongly suggest that you order #315, "The Elements of Grade Six," as a visual accompaniment to this lecture.

606: Teaching Early Medieval History
If you can, try to get up to the end of the First Millennium or beyond. The "Dark Ages" and the Arthurian tales, the building of castles and the life of serfs, the monk and the warrior -- all of these tales help students make the bridge from former lifetimes to their present one.

625: Teaching Christianity as History
This is the most unique CD we offer. You will hear Eugene Schwartz actually teaching his 34 sixth graders about the life of Jesus. (PC Note: Many of these students were Jewish, and said at the outset that they were attending these lessons under protest.) This is a subject that many teachers are afraid to touch nowadays, but listening to Eugene's presentation -- and his struggles -- may give you the courage to undertake this important subject.
